Dear friend,

Hello from the sunny (and very hot) Caribbean, where I'm doing my best to keep a fan pointed directly at my face at all times.

There's nothing quite as comforting as coming home to the familiarity of childhood. And yet, after more than two decades of living in the UK, the adult in me can't help but feel the anxious edge of family dynamics and culture shock.

Add to that a heat I'm no longer used to, and one that tells its own story about the toll the climate crisis is taking on the developing world, and I find myself craving the cool breezes of autumn. Soft blankets. Plush cushions. A cold nose.

Of course, you don't need family dynamics or tropical heat to feel on edge. Anxiety finds us through the big and small things of life: deadlines, grief, illness, traffic. Sometimes it's a low-grade sense that something is off, without being able to put your finger on what.

Taking the edge off stress and anxiety can take different forms:

  1. Telling apart the stress you create for yourself from the stress that comes from outside

  2. Recognising your own levels of stress and what triggers it

  3. Noticing when you feel fear or insecurity

  4. Simplifying your life and removing sources of stress

  5. Experiencing deep relaxation, so your system remembers how to come down

  6. Getting out of severe stress, and seeking support for it

This winter's series is all about the fifth one. (The sixth is further down.)

By popular demand, I'm bringing back my at-home Restorative Yoga series: a practice for taking the edge off whatever feels heavy, and finding some calm and steadiness in the middle of a chaotic world.

❄️ Winter Restorative Practice: an online series

Six 75-minute Sunday evening sessions on Zoom (but still early enough for you if you live in the Americas), running from autumn into the new year. Each one follows a different sequence, using supportive props, long-held postures and slow, spacious breath to help your body release the fatigue, stress or anxiety it's been carrying and your mind settle. You'll also learn shapes you can return to on your own and weave into your daily routine.

All sessions run 6pm – 7:15pm (UK time):

  • Sunday 11 October 2026

  • Sunday 8 November 2026

  • Sunday 6 December 2026

  • Sunday 20 December 2026

  • Sunday 17 January 2027

  • Sunday 14 February 2027

Come to one, a few or all six, however autumn and winter asks you to show up. Every session is recorded, so if a Sunday gets away from you, you can catch up in your own time and still receive the full practice.

Pricing

  • Single class: £13

  • Full series (all 6 sessions): £72

  • Community rate: £9 per class (no justification needed, limited places)

What you'll need
Cosy clothes, soft lighting (lamps, candles, fairy lights) and a yoga mat, plus whatever props you have: blocks, blankets, bolsters, a strap, an eye mask. No props? Cushions, pillows, rolled towels and a couple of thick books do a lovely job. And if you'd like suggestions on what's worth buying, send me a email or message on Instagram or Facebook and let’s chat.

Think of it as a standing appointment with your nervous system: all the cosiness of your sofa, with better posture and a guide.

When stress needs more than a blanket

Sometimes yoga isn't enough, and as a yoga practitioner I think it's important to name that. If stress has been building for months (or years) and rest feels impossible or unrecognisable, it may be time for support from someone qualified in stress and burnout management, and possibly a visit to your GP too.

Getting out of severe stress usually means looking at the broader picture: what's driving your depletion, what's within your control and what isn't, and having someone alongside you while you work it all out. That's the work I do outside of my yoga practice. Together we look at what's draining your energy and setting off your stress response, then take small, realistic steps to replenish you across mind, body, spirit and environment, at a pace that suits you.

I have 3 coaching spaces opening this autumn, with sessions starting at £80 an hour. If you'd like to talk through what's on your mind, even if you're not sure coaching is what you need, book a free call below and we can have a chat.
