The 1st of May marks Beltane — a seasonal threshold that invites us into warmth, vitality, and expansion. If you practice yoga with me, you’ll start to see this theme appear in our classes together.
Traditionally, Beltane is a celebration of life force. Of growth, connection, and the subtle but powerful energy that begins to rise as we move fully into spring and towards summer.
You might notice this around you — longer days, softer evenings, a sense that things are beginning to open.
But often, what I see (and what many women quietly share) is something different:
A body that feels tired, even as life speeds up.
A mind that doesn’t quite switch off.
A sense of pressure to keep up with the energy of the season, rather than move with it.
So today, I want to offer you something simple.
A gentle truth about stress (that often gets missed)
Stress isn’t only about how much you have to do.
It’s about how much life energy you have available to meet what’s in front of you.
When your energy is steady and nourished, challenges feel workable.
When it’s depleted, even small things can feel overwhelming.
Beltane, at its core, is about tending to this life energy — not forcing more output, but supporting the source itself.
A simple practice for this week
Rather than adding more to your list, I invite you to work with this:
1. Create one small daily “energy anchor”
Choose something that supports your energy before your day fills up.
This could be:
Stepping outside for 5 minutes of morning light
Sitting with your tea or coffee without your phone
Taking 3 slow breaths before opening your laptop
Keep it simple. Consistency matters more than intensity.
2. Notice your “leaks” (without judgement)
Throughout the day, gently ask yourself:
“Is this giving me energy, or taking it?”
This might be:
Scrolling when you’re already tired
Saying yes when you meant no
Pushing through instead of pausing
You don’t need to fix everything. Just noticing begins to shift things.
3. Close your day with a small reset
Before bed, take a moment to complete the day.
You might:
Write down 3 things that are done (even small ones)
Stretch your body for 2–3 minutes
Take a slow breath and consciously let the day go
This helps your system move out of “ongoing stress” and into rest.
A final thought for Beltane
Support your energy first — and everything else will become more manageable.
Reconnect with the part of you that already knows how to grow, steadily and in its own time.
Tend to your energy, don’t push through.
It’s the smallest shifts that begin to bring your energy back.
May Gatherings — Spaces to Celebrate
We are well and truly in the flowering season. I am looking forward to
🌸 Beltane — May 1st in Barrowford
This session will be hosted by Charlotte at Pendle Wellbeing Hub. This year, Charlotte and I have teamed up to offer these seasonal circles/socials with the community as a space to reflect and build connection.
🌿 Yoga & Brunch — May 17th in Skipton
A morning practice followed by shared conversation and nourishment at Phoebe’s. You’ll receive a welcome health shot, a 75-minute yoga practice, a handmade gift and deliciously nutritious brunch!
Both gatherings are designed as moments to celebrate the importance of connecting with others, and nourish body, mind and spirit.
